Jack C. Wilson, 63, of Council Grove, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Morris County Hospital.
Jack was born on June 19, 1949 in Liberal, Kansas to Jc and Betty Wilson. His childhood years were spent in Morton County Kansas and he graduated from Rolla High School. Jack has been a Morris County resident since 1984. A lifelong rancher and cowboy, Jack enjoyed being horseback in the open spaces of the Flint Hills pastures. He has been employed with IVESCO for the past 18 years.
He and Heather Goodwin Stevenson were married in Wichita, Kansas on March 10, 1972.
Jack was a member of the Fallen Cowboy Fellowship of Allen, Kansas where he faithfully served as a worship leader.
He had a great interest in cowboy campfire cooking, youth rodeos and participating in ranch rodeos. His greatest joy was found in his grandchildren. He spent many hours “moss fishing” in the creek with Cole and shared special times with Kasey on his lap or at his side. Everyone knew Jack as a strong man, but saw how quickly his heart would melt when he heard either of the little ones call out “Papa”.
Jack was preceded in death by grandparents Ivan and Helen Mills, parents, and brother Dan Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Heather, of the home; sons Cal Wilson of Hamilton, Montana and Clay and Krista Wilson and their children Cole Daniel and Kasey Grace of Council Grove; sister Cris Wilson of Goodland ; and sister-in-law Pat Trimble of Shell Knob, Missouri . Other family members include Catherine Stevenson, Eric and Jean Goodwin, June and Carl Gemino and Bob and Becky Stevenson. Jack leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many loyal friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Morris County Youth Rodeo Association or the WRCA Cowboy Crisis Fund. They may be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
