Thomas Sager Wilson, 87, lifetime resident of Council Grove, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.
Sager was born in Kissimmee, FL on January 20, 1926 to Robert Raymond, Sr. and Opal Maurens (Sager) Wilson. He attended and graduated from Council Grove schools in 1944. He attended Kansas State University, participating in the ROTC program and graduated with a two year Agricultural Degree.
Agriculture was a large part of Sager’s life, managing the family farm after his father passed away in 1949. He married Madonna May Woolley on June 11, 1950, in Osborne, KS. They just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. To this union, 6 children were born: Ronald, Janet, Linda, Richard, Rodney and Nancy.
Sager has been a longtime Director of Farmers & Drovers Bank, recipient of the Morris County Soil Conservation Bank Award, was a FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer, past board member of Morris County Farm Bureau and on the Uniondale School Board.
In addition to his love of the land, Sager enjoyed fishing, hunting and wiener roasting with his family. Woodworking was a favorite past time, creating numerous gifts for his family and spoiling his grandchildren with his projects. Sager’s lifetime passion has been his Oliver tractors, going to Oliver shows, collecting, refinishing and restoring his beloved antiques.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Sager is survived by his wife, Madonna, of the home; sons, Ronald (Marlene) of Wichita, Richard (Mary), of Garden City, Rodney (Dawn) of Hope; daughters, Janet Stephenson, of Grapevine, TX, Linda (Jerry) Borth, of St. George and Nancy Carroll, of Council Grove; brother, Robert (Mary), of Hyattsville, MD; 10 grandchildren, Jessica & Jennifer Wilson, Thomas & Amanda Wilson, Natalie Stephenson, Blaker, Ethan & Michaela Carroll, Chris & Tracy Borth; 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
